#GerifiedPH: No more Peligro every Petsa de Peligro!

Petsa de Peligro is a term that originated in Spain but was adopted in the Philippines in the Spanish Era – the time when the Spaniards colonized the Filipinos. It is term that defines “troubled times”.

#1429JolliSerye

In the corporate world, employees defined the days before their payday, usually the 14th of the month and the 29th of the month as their Petsa de Peligro due to the fact that most employees are hanging on to the last one hundred peso bill in their pocket simply because they do not know how to handle their finances or simply because the salary just isn’t enough.

#GerifiedPH: Go #BICtoSchool for #BICBrightFutures

18892977_910580452427737_4037014620722262087_n

Bright Futures are Written by Hand – this is what BIC Product Asia launched as its back-to-school campaign in the Philippines in partnership with their exclusive distributor in the country, the Filstar Distributors Corporation.

You might ask why is BIC still emphasizing on handwriting given the proliferation of technology. Indeed, we are living in a changing world and while handwriting might seem trivial for some, it is passion for some – and that includes me. My smartphone, laptop and tablet may have calendar, but I personally like writing down my ideas and schedules in my planner, I even do manual computation with a pencil and eraser to check if my Structural Analysis Program output is more or less correct, realistic and feasibly economical.

Let us also not forget that handwriting is still essential and vital to a child’s development. The act of handwriting alone helps develop a child’s cognitive and motor skills, helps boost memory and creativity as well as promotes self-confidence and interpersonal skills.

Bright ideas came from hand-writing.

Ready to be #BICtoSchool! #Kulayot and #Dabibot is ready to discover the #kidzaniamanila world and have #BICBrightFutures!

BICBrightFutures gerifiedph.jpg

Today, BIC wants children to love handwriting again. Via Filstar Distributors Corporation, BIC Product Asia kicked off its biggest social campaign in Asia, the #BICBrightFutures! As Champions of Education, BIC believes that a bright future is not limited for the fortunate, but is for everyone. It is a right to be educated and education is a great tool for the equalization of the social status of the community, and in the long run, the world.

Filstar Distributors Corporation prides itself as having been the exclusive licensee of Hallmark in the Philippines since 1974 and the exclusive distributor of BIC Stationery products since 2001. Since then, Filstar has evolved to be a distributor of not just these two distinguished brands but of other world class brands that supplement and enhance the self-expression industry. In 2013, Filstar expanded its partnership with BIC to over BIC lighters and shavers categories.

Hand-writing is in the DNA of the BIC Company.

Last October 26, BIC Product Asia celebrated the importance of handwriting and education; with friends from the media and bloggers, BIC culminated Kidzania Manila in BGC as a ground for a fun day of learning and playing with the company’s 200 children beneficiaries from Children’s Hour, Kariton Klasrum and Yellow Boat of Hope.

BIC wants to Inspire people to express themselves.

When I was a child, I remember writing down telephone numbers inside my fancy notebook – I remember Mr. Brown, Atty. Marmalade and Lily from the red London Bus. That fancy notebook was placed beside my curly rotary phone, and I jot down letters, doodle patterns and curves, and sketched houses and buildings as I give them a ring. I even fold manila papers into squares pretending they are my blueprints. True enough, those pretend games and the handwriting subconsciously solidified my ambitions and now, I am a licensed engineer, signing real blueprints and building structures.

This is exactly what BIC wants to revive. BIC through their employees and subsidiaries worldwide has now been marking significant impact in the lives of thousand of students, all whom know that BIC supports them in their quest for a brighter future.

Write it on the paper and make it real.

Hosted by Ms. Issa Litton, #BICBrigthFutures event showcase masters of education and selfless philanthropies with a burning passion to help the hopes of our future – the children.

Kariton Klasrum’s Mr. Efren Penaflorida, CNN Hero of the Year 2009, a social worker and a teacher who was greeted with salute has shared with the BEST valuable lesson in life.

B if for Believe That You Can – Never stop believing in yourself. Who first should believe in your dreams and hopes but yourself. Stop comparing yourself to others, but instead focus on what you got, and from create small stepping stones that will eventually lead you to your success.

Practice doesn’t make someone perfect but it brings progress.

E is for Excel in Every Work – Enough is not good enough. Don’t settle for anything but the best. Adults need to support children. Criticize but do not belittle them. Push them, protect them, understand them.

S is for Stand firm to what is true and noble – Value education and fight ignorance and poverty but remember,

Cheating is not an option to succeed in life.

Do the right things at all circumstances whether someone is watching or not, that is what we call Integrity.

T is for Think of ways to improve yourself – “Self-improvement is universal to the human experience; we all have things we’d like to change about ourselves. Perhaps you want to lose weight, improve your skills in a certain area, be more comfortable socially, be happier, or more productive. Whatever the ultimate improvement desired, in order to achieve it you may benefit from identifying your specific goals, enacting change, and coping with setbacks.” – from Wiki.

Know what you want, set your game plan and execute!

“Our main focus, since Kariton Klasrum’s inception, has always been about bringing education to less-fortunate children. Through this event, we will be able to show them that a bright future is possible for them as they plan for it and persevere to achieve it,” said Efren Penaflorida, founder of Kariton Klastum.

Do you want to memorize faster? Write it down.

For one day, the children from Kariton Klasrum and Children’s Hour are encouraged to have fun while exploring the adult world by immersing themselves in over 100 role-playing activities in the play city. Using BIC pens, they also plot their goals and dreams in a special BIC Bright Futures workbook.

Ms. Net Garcia, Children Hour Executive Director said that “Many children are in great need of encouragement from the adults in their lives in order to push themselves to work hard for a better future. We are happy that our kids will walk away with a sneak peak at what their own futures can hold, as well as a new hope.”

Education serves a platform to secure a brighter future.

We jumped on our seats – that is how Mr. Jay Jaboneta of Yellow Boat of Hope started his talk. Jay always let the audience jump first as it initialized the audience jump on the yellow school boat. Welcome aboard! Yellow Boat of Hope’s main mission is to make sure that kids go to school safely and they started off with a single yellow boat that crosses children from the riverbank.

“We have always believed that bright futures are written by hand. As adults, many of us have become what we are today because we put pen to paper and wrote down our ambitions. That act of writing down our aspirations makes the dream seem real. Today, we want to inspire less-fortunate children to dream and work for their futures, because after all, everyone deserves a bright furute. ” said Frederic Dumon, BIC Asia Deputy General Manager.

More photos of the event here.

No one is superior by size but by purpose.

The big sun can never do what the small sun (moon) can, and that is to give light at night, hence, BIC feels strongly about giving back to communities where the group is present in the form of product or financial donations and volunteering. As part of its strong societal commitment, the BIC Corporate Foundation for Education was launched in 2016 focusing on fighting for universal access of education as a basic human right. Through this foundation, BIC is engaged in the fight against school drop-outs, access to education for girls and women and environmental education. In the same year, the global company has made 112 donations to promote education giving more than 6 million pens to children in need.

The highlight of the event, BIC’s half a million of stationery product donation to Children’s Hour, Yellow Boat of Hope and Kariton Klasrum to help kids as they pursue their dreams. The turn over ceremony promoted access to education with 1.7 Million Dollars donation last year and this year, is the biggest donation so far with 500,000 stationery products with an average of 2 pens and 2 pencils per kid!

BIC is a family-owned company listed on the Paris Stock Exchange and a world leader in stationery, lighters and shavers. For more than 60 years, BIC has honored the tradition of providing high-quality, simple, inventive and reliable choices for everyone, everywhere, every day worldwide with 18.9 million stationery products, 4.2 million lighters, 7.1 million savers and 0.7 million promotional products.

One of the things I noticed on the latest BIC TVC is that the pens are sturdier and break-resistant and found out that those are actually called Evolution Pencils which are wood free and no splinter type. Aside from that smart innovation, BIC products are toxic-free and complies with United Kingdom’s EN 71 making the products environment-friendly. What’s more? There are improvement on BIC’s industrial design of materials like preventing the children from chocking by making the ballpen’s cap open with a hole.

Toxic-free crayons, splinter-free pencils and holes on pen’s cap are a few of the industrial innovations that makes BIC child-friendly.

BIC encourages out-of-school youths to go BIC to school to because it pays off to work hard. There’s no graduation in learning and that’s a good thing because it only means that you can still shape your future starting by handwriting it down using BIC stationery materials.

#GerifiedPH: The LG Signature OLED TV

Organic Light Emitting Diodes, or simply OLED is the next big thing that came in the history of television. And this was made a reality by LG.

Last September 12 at the Ascott, BGC Taguig, LG held The Big Reveal wherein friends from the media and bloggers gathered up to see the latest tech as revealed by LG’s latest endorser, Mr. James Deakin. The 77″ LG OLED Signature TV.

2017_G7_A_77inch_8.jpg

What is OLED all about?

OLED means that each pixel on the tv screen is self-lighting.

There’s no lights behind the monitor and hence, no bleeding of light. If it’s black, it’s pitch black, same goes to other colors, red is red and not kind-of-pink red, which only means – better watching experience.

There’s no lights behind the monitor and hence, the pixels turn itself on and off when needed, another reason for better watching experience! What’s more? It also means efficient energy saving!

There’s no lights behind the monitor and hence, no need for extra space inside the television box. Blade Slim Design made this LG Signature TV the world’s slimmest TV. How thin? James Deakin measured the thickness and it’s about three one peso coin slim.

There’s no lights behind the monitor and hence, no halo effect. Perfect viewing angle anywhere you are. No more best seating in from of the screen, because LG Signature OLED TV can accommodate the entire audience with the high quality moving pictures.

There’s no lights behind the monitor and hence, the LG Signature TV can accommodate three of the best leading TV technologies today – the Active HDR with Dolby Vision, the HDR10 and the Hybrid Log-gamma. Meaning? Even if the brightest and darkest colors are in one frame, the details would be crisp and you could see the details since, like mentioned above, it supports all HDR features.

The high definition frames from OLED Signature TV will only win half of the battle if the sound was compromised. Well, LG made sure that you’ll get the best of their LG Signature TV because they paired OLED with Dolby Atmos! Mind you, it’s the only TV with Dolby Atmos!

The high definition frames from and Dolby Atmost sound of OLED Signature TV will only win half of the battle if the remote control sucks. Remote Control for me is like the spine connecting the brain from the body, and the this latest TV from LG didn’t just had the TV make-over, they even set the Remote Control standard to the next level with their Magic Remote. Basically like a wand for your entertainment!

Microphone button – now you don’t have to type everything on the keyboard screen raping the left arrow button making your thumb numb before you made it to letters that are placed on the farthest left side of the keyboard. All you have to do is talk and it will listen.

Did you know? LG is Netflix Recommended TV.

It only follows that LG OLED Signature TV has

Netflix Hot Key – Even when the TV is off, click the Netflix Hot Key and boom! Netflix interface on yout OLED TV! What’s more? Aside from this hot button, I also like it has the cursor arrow feature because no more raping the arrow buttons!

Other features include:

77-inch OLED display @ 3840 x 2160 pixels
4K UHD 2160p
OLED HDR with Dolby Vision
ULTRA Luminance
Self-lighting Pixel
3D
webOS 3.5
4 x HDMI ports
3 x USB ports
1 x RF input (antenna)
1 x AV Input/Component Input
1 x Ethernet LAN port
1 x Optical digital audio out
1 x Head phone jack
1 x RS232C (Mini Jack)
AC 100-240V 50-60Hz (Power supply)
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/c, with Wi-Fi Direct
SIMPLINK (HDMI CEC)
Dolby Atmos speaker
68.3″ x 42.0″ x 3.3″ (wall mount)

51.98 kg

More about LG OLED Signature TV here.

The LG OLED77G7T is priced at Php749,990 with lots of freebies and can be purchased at selected Abenson Appliance shop nationwide.

Thank you so much for having me LG Philippines! The best part aside from experiencing the LG technology behind OLED Signature TV is that I get to grab a 43″ Smart TV!

“SM Moments” did it again!

SM Supermalls’ made-for-digital Grandparents’ Day video titled “#SMmoments presents ‘Atat” has now reached 1.6 MILLION VIEWS and counting and has moved families on digital, most especially Lolos and Lolas, to “HAPPY TEARS” as they recalled their most memorable experiences together with their families and the indescribable joy when they learnt that they’re gonna be grandparents for the first time and the unending love that they have for their family.

“This is so touching. I remember my daughter gave us an envelope before as a Christmas gift and inside the envelope was the ultra sound picture of the baby and written “Merry Christmas Lolo and Lola,” shared by netizen Alfred Tatoy. “It was the happiest day of my life when i learn that i will be a lola already. It’s almost the same story. Good job, SM team!”

Like the grandparents, young couples can relate to the anticipation of the Lolo and Lola characters in the story.

“This made me cry but it’s ‘happy tears.’ A new baby is really one of the best news newly married couples give to their parents,” said Sheena Lazarus. “That’s why the first grandchild is usually the luckiest in the family because he or she was long waited for.”

There were also several netizens who expressed how much they miss their departed grandparents and the previous moments they had at their favorite SM malls.

For Lola Alma Ycong, she would miss her beloved this Grandparents’ Day, “I was teary-eyed while watching the video because I remember my husband who is now in Heaven. He was the smartest and most loving Lolo to my 2 apos. We always had a grand time in SM City Cebu especially during Sundays. I miss him dearly!”

As the video concluded, “Celebrate the gift of life – the old and the new.” This Grandparents’ Day, let’s make the hearts of Lolos and Lolas happy and truly appreciated. It’s time to spoil them back with more memorable moments for them to treasure so #DateWithLoloAndLolaAtSM this September 10!

Reshape the future today at THE FUTURE CITY: An Interactive Digital Park

An extraordinary learning experience awaits young and the young-at-heart at the Future City. Put your seatbelts on as we take off to the future and explore how we can help reshape your child’s future today through one-of-a-kind interactive installations that will put your eyes and minds in awe.

4.JPG

Open for just one weekend, The Future Park together with NESTLÉ NANKID OPTIPRO FOUR,—a milk designed specifically for your child’s growth and development that helps secure your child’s healthy future through the power of Optimized Protein, launches FUTURE CITY: An Interactive Digital Park.

From September 9-10, this pioneering digital park opens its doors to guests as a way to educate and empower children and their parents about how their decisions today, can affect their future.

Future City uses technologies from all over the globe. The park contains 6 unique and engaging stations that will give guests the chance to participate in one-of-a-kind experiences that will surely nurture the minds of the kids and kids at heart.

The Future City visually illustrates how science has become the blueprint for brighter, safer future for our children. Guests can begin their exploration and discovery at the Future Dome where they will be given a glimpse of the technological advances that will soon define future cities—from towering smart skyscrapers, solar powered walls, interactive cityscapes, and autonomous vehicles.

Visitors of Future City will be given access to several stations that will surely broaden the mind. A Sketch Village where the patterns you color come to life, a Checkpoint where you can assess your future health, and interactive walls and floors featuring digital games.

After the guests go through these stations, seeing what the future can be and how it can be affected with the choices and lifestyle we make, from there, they will be ushered into a room that highlights an interactive wall demonstrating the evolution of science for nutrition and development, and how scientific advances have helped secure a child’s healthy future.

A big point of apprehension about the future, especially for parents, is their child’s health. Family history plays a big part in determining what diseases and conditions will be inherited by their kids and educating yourself about what can be done to prevent these from being passed on is the key to ensuring your child’s better future health. To that end, the Family Health Screener can help parents assess these possibilities, which will also be unveiled at the pop-up interactive digital park.

All in all, the Future City is a fitting fusion of interactive material and abstract concepts demonstrated in a visual and engaging way for kids and the kids at heart to appreciate and enjoy.

The interactive nature of The Future City is central to the entire exhibit’s message, not just in terms of technology and infrastructure, but for bigger and far more essential choices for your child’s health and development. Exploring the science behind the different elements that drive our lives—the environment we move in, the things we eat, the activities we do—it helps us understand just how relevant all these our to securing a brighter, safer, healthier future for generations to come.

Never settle for anything less especially when it comes to your child. Give your child optimum nutrition and reshape their future today.

###

Future City: An Interactive Digital Park is an event by The Future Park, sponsored by Nestlé NANKID Optipro. Future City: An Interactive Digital Park will be open to public on September 9-10, 2017 (Saturday to Sunday), 10:00 am to 9:00 pm at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura, Taguig City.
