Hone the next big startup with QBO’s Startup Roadshow

Photo 2.JPG

The multi-city roadshow aims to level up tech startups, small businesses all over the country

The future of Philippine startups looks bright with the Philippines national ranking up by 16 positions, according to the recently released StartupBlink Ecosystem Ranking Report. To continue this momentum, QBO Innovation Hub, the Philippines’ first public-private sector initiative which aims to connect, transform, and empower Filipino startups, holds the Startup Roadshow starting this May.

The roadshow aims to inspire innovators and enable communities throughout the country through sessions on startup business concepts and tools, ideation, design thinking, business model canvas, and local ecosystem mapping. Facilitated by highly experienced QBO members and startup founders, the workshops are designed to be fun and engaging to spark the participants’ creativity as they kickoff their startup journey. The event also features panel discussions and networking opportunities for those wanting to connect with fellow tech leaders.

“The local startup ecosystem continues to grow due to sustained confidence in the country’s economy, technological advancements, and newly-introduced regulations such as the ‘Innovative Startup Act’ which seeks to promote ease of doing business in the Philippines,” says Katrina Chan, Director of QBO Innovation Hub. “While it’s all helpful in creating a healthy business environment for Filipino entrepreneurs, there are more opportunities to bring cutting-edge ideas to life.”

This is the second time that QBO Innovation Hub is holding the roadshow across major cities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. In 2018, 13 cities and over 1,300 participants joined the first run of the roadshow. Government organizations signed partnerships with QBO to contribute to countryside development efforts. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) was among the first to get on board, sponsoring programs in 7 cities last year.

QBO hopes to make this year’s roadshow bigger through the support of more partners, communities, and business owners. Interested partners who want to bring the workshop to their respective communities, schools, or cities can host an introductory workshop using QBO’s set module. Partners wanting to learn specific skills or learn more about certain topics can have custom-made workshops as well.

“We saw the impact of last year’s roadshow in answering what most aspiring startup founders want to know: ‘Where do we start?’ We want to help them figure out the answer,” adds Chan. “We’d also like for more partners to come on board with us to help discover the next wave of homegrown startups that will put our country on the global innovation map. Who knows? The next big thing may be in your school, your community, or your city.”

Gifted kids shine bright in Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 Celebrate the Gift Recital

Over 270 Promil Four i-Shine 7 talent camp i-Shiner graduates took the stage to shine bright, wowing the audience with amazing creations and inspiring performances during Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 Celebrate the Gift Recital at SMX Aura.

Ever-supportive parents, relatives, mentors, and other kids filled the SMX Aura Convention Center with cheers and applause as they witnessed future artists, dancers, musicians, ballerinas, and actors conquer the stage. Seasoned actress Dimples Romana, who has been hosting Promil Four’s i-Shine ever since its beginning in 2009, once again  had the honor of hosting the recital.

To begin the celebration, members of the Art Camp, under the mentorship of Teacher Robert Alejandro of Papemelroti and Teacher Kara of Masterpiece Movement, cultivated the value of Imagination through creative exploration and self-expression as they showcased a lovely mural & tunnel that they worked on during their workshop.

Next, participants of the Dance Camp, mentored by G-Force choreographers and guided by Teacher Georcelle Dapat-Sy, brought the house down with both beginner and intermediate hip-hop moves. Through sequences of steps, rhythmic patterns, thumping beats, and awesome formations, each Promil Four i-Shiner explored and found a passion for dance. The value of Teamwork was incorporated as an important part of their learning during their workshops, allowing them to work together while also expressing individuality in their performance.

Meanwhile, the little ballerinas melted the audience’s hearts because of their frilly tutus and satin ballet shoes. Personally taught and led by Prima Ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde of Ballet Manila, the little ballerinas demonstrated poise and grace with their smooth and delicate movements. With the help of Promil Four i-Shine7 Ballet Camp, the little girls learned the value of discipline that they will take with them beyond the workshop.

Next, the Theatre Camp i-Shiners showed off their confident, gregarious, and versatile selves on stage. One of the Promil Four Theater camp i-Shiners’ performances was the popular fable “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” directed by Coaches from Trumpets Playshop. Through imagination and creativity, as well as embracing the arts in all its forms, the Theatre Camp took a step closer towards creating well-rounded, confident, and versatile kids.

Members of the Music Camp showcased their gift through a lively performance of voices and instruments in perfect harmony, guided by National Artist, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. While the kids learned new musical lessons, they were also imparted with improved skills, confidence, and an increased awareness of the learning and leadership needed to thrive in life.

Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 Camps ran from April to May 2019.  This year’s camp locations expanded beyond Metro Manila with the addition of Batangas, Cebu, and Davao. Promil Four, as part of its commitment, continues to encourage parents to nurture their children’s gifts, not only with expert guidance, but also with proper nutrition. The New Promil Four’s Nutrissentials are now made even better with Oligofructose, to help support proper growth and mental development. An Active, Energized Summer with MILO: Get Your Child into Sports!

Annual summer clinic strengthens commitment in nutrition and sports for child development

There’s still time to make the most out of your child’s summer break with the second wave of the MILO Summer Sports Clinics this May until June. With its unwavering commitment to provide the nutritious energy to get more children into sports, MILO’s yearly program continues to offer a wide array of exciting sports activities that kids can participate in throughout the summer.

As part of the longstanding “Get Your Child into Sports” advocacy, the MILO Summer Sports Clinics aims to reinforce the importance of sports in a child’s holistic development. Children today are faced with numerous barriers that hinder them from engaging into sports such as digital distractions, lack of safe play places, and fear of trying. MILO’s annual summer program seeks to address these challenges by highlighting sports as a means not only to get kids active, but also to teach valuable life lessons one can learn outside the classroom.

Energizing More Children

This year, MILO makes the Summer Sports Clinics accessible to more aspiring young athletes as they continue their expansion in the Visayas and Mindanao region. The clinics started nationwide last end-March and continues this May until June, in over 700 venues to more than 30,000 children nationwide.

Arnis, Ultimate Frisbee, and Wushu are this year’s newest additions to the program’s sports offerings. Apart from those sports, the MILO Summer Sports Clinics will continue to provide training to different sports disciplines, namely Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Fencing, Football, Futsal, Golf, Gymnastics, Karatedo, Lawn Tennis, Parkour, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Touch Rugby, and Volleyball.

MILO 009

To further enhance the summer clinic experience of the participants, select clinic organizers will offer a MILO Welcome Kit that contains an exclusive Summer Sports Clinics drawstring bag and MILO to ensure the participants will get their Champion Energy Nutrients when they embark on their summer courses.

“MILO contains Champion Energy Nutrients such as milk, Protomalt, B-Vitamins, and Iron to help children get active especially in sports,” said Willy De Ocampo, Nestlé Philippines Vice President. “So, not only will the kids get the physical and social benefits at the Summer Sports Clinics, they will also be provided with the nutritious energy of MILO.”

Nourishing Champions Through the Years

For more than 35 years, MILO prides itself in partnering with a roster of esteemed organizations such as the BEST Center and Philippine Taekwondo Association among many others, that have been instrumental in maintaining the sports excellence that the Summer Sports Clinics is known for.

Expert coaches and instructors who have competed and won in local and international competitions such as the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and the Olympics will handle the programs. These mentors use modern and scientific approaches that will help participants gain appreciation for the different sports, live a healthy and active lifestyle, and embody the morals of discipline, confidence, teamwork, perseverance, and hard work.

By centering on values in sports, MILO’s Summer Sports Clinics along with its other sports programs, have created outstanding personas in the sporting scene. The roster of alumni includes BEST Center graduate Chris Tiu, Taekwondo clinic graduate and SEA Games medalist Japoy Lizardo, and Gymnastics clinic graduate and SEA Games gold medalist Kaitlyn De Guzman.

“We look forward to nurture more children to be champions not just as athletes but also as individuals,” said Luigi Pumaren, MILO Sports Executive. “We encourage parents to introduce their kids to a fun, active and healthy lifestyle and make their summer worthwhile with the MILO Summer Sports Clinics.”

Journey to stardom

The talent contest is open to all kids from anywhere in the Philippines, aged four to 10 years old. To join, parents or guardians must create a maximum 30-second video showing their child’s chosen talent.
