What happens after eating a healthy breakfast

We often hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, do you know what happens to your body after eating a healthy breakfast? Aside from improving your overall heath, eating a healthy morning meal helps you to focus, to make smart decisions and satisfies your appetite to help you avoid overeating later in the day.

“The literal meaning of breakfast is really breaking the fasting period of the night before. The span of time between your dinner and your next meal is long, perhaps 7 to 8 hours. That’s why it’s important to eat breakfast within 2 hours of waking up. In addition to starvation and low-energy levels, skipping breakfast can also make you binge and snack excessively later in the day, which can lead to other serious health problems like obesity, ” said Dr. Nicky Montoya, president and CEO of MediCard.

Here are more reasons why you shouldn’t skip breakfast:

It improves memory and concentration. Eating a healthy breakfast boosts your memory and concentration, especially at work and at school. According to research, eating breakfast leads to better cognitive performance, helping you concentrate more. It also restores glucose levels. Glucose is an important carbohydrate that is needed for the brain to function properly. “A healthy breakfast helps you have better coordination and problem-solving skills,” says Dr. Montoya.

It keeps you energized. Breakfast is the perfect time to fuel your body with vitamins and nutrients to keep you energized through the day. Keeping your energy levels high will help you accomplish all your responsibilities efficiently and eating a nutritious breakfast is essential for this. Try having eggs, yogurt, cereal or fruits in the morning.

It helps lower cholesterol levels. Studies show that people who skip breakfast are more likely to have worse cholesterol levels and insulin sensitivity than breakfast eaters. This is because eating nutritious foods for breakfast helps you eat smaller meals and avoid fatty food throughout the day.

It boosts metabolism and controls weight. While you sleep, your metabolism slows down and burns less calories. A great way to kick start your metabolism is by having a healthy breakfast to allow your body to start burning calories as soon as you start your day. In addition to faster metabolism, eating breakfast also helps you control your weight. When you consume high-protein meals during breakfast, you will feel fuller, hence, avoiding overeating later in the day. Just make sure that your breakfast is loaded with nutrients and not with fat and empty calories.

It puts you in a positive mood. Sleeping for 8 hours or so usually mean that you’re starving when you wake up. Starvation can really put you in a bad mood. That can be easily dealt with by eating a healthy breakfast. Dr. Montoya recommends having mood-boosting food for breakfast like berries (e.g. blueberries or strawberries), whole wheat pancakes and a banana smoothie with nuts and flaxseed.

Another specialty is the Eggs Benedict Adobo, a clever culinary fusion that has the salty flavors of adobo flakes, gratinated kesong puti, poached eggs and tomatoes on two English muffins.

Italianni’s likewise offers a wide variety of continental choices like the American Platter, comfort food on a plate with golden pancakes, choice of bacon or sausage, and two eggs done any style.

Food Trip: Gourmet Metro

image

There are nights when were just too tired of eating dinner on dinner that we decided to get a breakfast meal to end the night. Here at Gourmet Metro, we finally did it. Breakfast served all day!

image

image

Aside from the series of silog

image

we also tried this

image

served straight from its packaging, the sliced beef is ready to eat, no need to cook! Yum! Real extraordinary way to end the night in a beefy peppery note. 🙂

Chronicles of a Young Wife: Ordinary Night at the Gourmet Metro

Our dates on the Gourmet Metro!

The then bf-gf now husband and wife – Beth and Mike with Jerson.image

Mom and Dad.

image

Baby and me. Sorry for the naked face – when you’re in a rush, sometimes, you just got to put moisturizer on before hitting the mall – which leaves my face a shiny! 😛image

image

The breakfast supper was more delicious because it’s shared with the entire family tree! 😛

Food Trip: Nescafe Frappe

Hot weather won’t stop coffee lovers from drinking their favourite, right? What more when if it is served cold with a twist? Aside from freshly brewed, coffee with ice is le bomb!

Nescafe launch another variant of their coffee goodness – the Nestle Frappe! It comes in two different flavours:

image

Cookies ‘n Cream

and

imageChoco ‘n Mallows!

I’m addicted to Nescafe Frappe Choco ‘n Mallows, while Beth pegs the Cookies ‘n Cream! How did we end up to this new addiction?

Once upon a gloomy afternoon, (it was rather raining cows and goats outside – yeah extreme weather), the family decided to take a hike inside the (metaphoric mountain) mall of course and my sister and I stumble upon this…

image

A smiling maiden awaiting our arrival politely asks us if we would like to try her frappe on whichever of the two … And we said “Both”.

The lady asked us if we want to try the new Nescafe Frappe and we said yes! -maybe because the lady is too enthusiastic (caffeine overload?) or because the coffee lover in me can’t turn down that nostalgic aroma

image

or was is because of my love for mallows and maybe because the cups are attention seeker?

image

So there, each of us got two cups of ice coffee with cookies on one and mallows on the other.

The cookie crumbles on top melts in my mouth while adding flavour to the drink whiles the “tough” little mallows (do not belittle those white pillow glucose) are somewhat resistant to the bite giving texture to this cold concoction of caffeine and everything nice – great difference and good choices of flavours indeed. Nescafe’s Frappes would surely beat the heat! For only Php10 per pack, you’ll get to enjoy a next-to-the level iced coffee drink!

image

Have you tried the Nescafe Frappe? Are you team cookies or team mallows? Fire away!

FOOD TRIP: Gonuts Donuts

Fun cross between Krispy Kreme and Mister Donut – that is how I would personally describe Gonuts. Look at his excited face! The red box and that crazy gonut donut-face really catches his attention!

image

Close up of his jaw dropping!

image

The good inside the box!

What I did was I cut the donuts into six bite sizes and let him taste a bit of everything (because he wants to have all of them)! 😛 He especially love the cherry syrup on top and the bits of choco twirls.

I make him gulped gallons of water afterwards – and brush his teeth too! 🙂imageIt’s sweet and sugary in a very delicious confectionary good way. Perfect with brewed coffee and a good book! Just the kind of sugar-rush I need in the late rainy afternoon! ❤

Chronicles of a Young Wife: Honey Lemon Concoction!

If you are following me on IG and/or Twitter then you already saw this:

suebee

Babe’s latest bag dweller – coming soon! 🙂 #suebee#orangeblossomhoney

suebee2

Homemade cough remedy: honey + citrus (calamansi/lemon) 🙂

What I do is, I squeeze a calamansi or a half teaspoon of “beaten” lemon on a saucer and mixed it with 1 and a half teaspoon of honey or sweet enough for babe to eat it. I give this mixture every night before going to bed or after his evening meal. Why? Well, to sooth his throat, lessening his urge to cough and avoiding vomiting due to his gag reflex.

Aside from this, 2 teaspoons of Honey and 2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice could also be mixed with a cup of water (preferably hot or lukewarm for kids) just before bedtime or as a good morning cup!

Honey-lemon combo is also used as a thirst-quencher this humid rainy days here in the pacific and summa-time on the opposite side of the world.

Trick is, beat that lemon up – and beat it good! Mixed honey and lemon on a hot cup of water until the honey is completely dissolved. Then pour everything on a pitcher, add water, ice and mix again. 😉

Stay flu and cough free everyone!
