Herbalife Nutrition Study Reveals Alarming Lack of Nutrition, Hydration and Exercise Among Adults

Herbalife, a global nutrition company, has released the findings from its Asia Pacific Balanced Nutrition Survey1, which focuses on shedding light on nutrition and health habits, behaviors and attitudes of consumers aged 18 and above. The survey is an element of the seventh Herbalife Asia Pacific Wellness Tour, seeking to inspire consumers to adopt balanced nutrition habits and reinforce its impact to long-term health and wellbeing. According to survey findings, 8 in 10 (78%) of Filipino consumers are eating less than half of the daily recommended serving of fruits and vegetables, 4 in 10 (41%) do not drink enough water, and more than half (59%) do not get enough exercise.

While 6 in 10 (60%) of consumers in the Philippines believe that ensuring their body gets the sufficient nutrients to function optimally was the greatest motivator to adopting a balanced diet, modern, fast-paced lifestyles make it increasingly challenging to incorporate healthy nutrition habits into daily lives.
The study revealed that 6 in 10 (57%) respondents in the Philippines found having a daily balanced nutrition approach to be challenging, citing the lack of time, money, and motivation to be the top three obstacles preventing them from having a healthier lifestyles.

Additionally, the Philippines survey findings revealed the following:

• 8 in 10 (78%) consumers claimed to consume 0 to 2 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, below the recommended 5 servings per day

• 4 in 10 (41%) consume less than the recommended 8 glasses of water/fluids per day

• Over half (59%) achieve less than 1 hour of physical activity per day, with 10% having no physical activity at all

• The top 3 motivations to adopting balanced nutrition are sufficient nutrients to function optimally (60%), to prevent health related problems and complications (51%) and to maintain ideal body weight to prevent obesity-related health problems (39%)

• The top 3 obstacles to a daily nutrition approach are lack of time (57%), lack of money (53%), and lack of motivation (45%).

• To help consumers improve their nutrition habits:

o 7 in 10 (67%) of respondents feel that having an easier access to healthier food choices would help them adopt a balanced nutrition approach.

o 4 in 10 (37%) of respondents look for like-minded people to make healthier food choices together

o 4 in 10 (42%) of respondents seek expert advice for a personalized nutrition plan
When asked about what would help them achieve their balanced nutrition and exercise goals, most of the respondents agreed that balanced nutrition and community support approach, such as that exhibited at Herbalife Independent Nutrition Clubs, would improve personal well-being in the long run.
“As a global nutrition company, Herbalife Nutrition is committed to helping consumers adopt balanced nutrition habits, so that they can have a positive impact on their lives in the long run,” said Mr. Rosalio Valenzuela, general manager of Herbalife Philippines.
1Herbalife’s Asia Pacific Balanced Nutrition Survey was conducted in March 2017 with 500 respondents aged 18 years of age in the Philippines.

Here’s why parents should encourage kids to drink more water

In the Philippines, there is a growing rate1 in children obesity from age zero to 10 years old, and this is mainly attributed to the consumption of processed food that is high in sugar and fat alongside an inactive lifestyle.

18718328_1744382088908477_217738397_n.jpg

Among the number of drink alternatives available today, Absolute Distilled Drinking Water understands that serving kids with plain water, instead of sweetened or flavored drinks, is quite an uphill battle for parents. But building on this habit earlier on will encourage kids to develop the good foundations of healthy eating.

Absolute encourages parents to start building the culture of hydration at home by being good example. So here’s a rundown of why you and your kids should start the habit of drinking water today.

1. Hydration
The body loses about eight cups of water every day. This lost water needs to be replaced to avoid discomforts such as nausea, headaches, muscle cramps, and ultimately dehydration. Sweetened drinks don’t really re-hydrate the body as efficiently as water. In fact, fizzy drinks make the body lose more water by stimulating urine production. So, when it comes to water replenishment, nothing beats water.

2. Weight watch
Sugary drinks are loaded with calories and of course, sugar. Studies have found links to prevalent child obesity and flavored drinks, which is why some schools have mandated bans on such. If you want your child to maintain a healthy weight, limit their intake of sweetened drinks and get them to opt for water to quench their thirst.

3. Sugar and tooth decay
Sugary drinks make it easy for bacteria to grow inside the mouth. Bacteria feed on the sugar and create enamel-damaging acids in the process. Water, on the other hand, has natural elements that strengthen the teeth, making them less susceptible to damage from plaque and sugars.

4. Poor appetite
Consuming too much sweetened drinks has shown to affect a kid’s appetite. If a healthy diet is top priority, make sure they only consume sugary drinks occassionally, and more importatnyl to establish water as the first choice when they are thirsty.

5. Healthy and inexpensive
On top of it being calorie-free and with tons of health benefits, water is inexpensive compared to sweetened or flavored drinks.
There is more to water for everyone, but one thing is clear: water is better than any other drink alternative. To encourage your kids to love drinking water, educate them on its benefits and how it functions in their bodies. Always make it available and accessible to them, and make it drinking water a fun occasion for the family.

Absolute Drinking Water, in its mission to encourage kids to drink more water, has collaborated with The Walt Disney Company Philippines to launch kiddie water bottles with the iconic Disney characters on them. This is to promote the value of water hydration and make it an exciting and fun choice over sweteened drinks.

Get your kids to love and be excited about drinking water by giving them the Absolute Disney kiddie water bottles.

Give your eyes a break

Give your eyes a glare-free, well-protected summer holiday with Crizal® Prevencia multi-coated lenses

Summer is best known as the season of glare-related eyestrain, when you experience stinging of the eyes because of too much concentrated sunlight. But did you also know that eyestrain can be caused by other factors? Indoors, your eyes can also suffer long-term damage after facing the TV, gadgets or computer monitors at less than a foot away.

While light is an essential part of daily life – helping you see, regulating your body clock, and even providing you with much-needed Vitamin D – too much of it can cause painful eye conditions, including eyelid twitches, eye pain and extreme sensitivity to bright light. In severe cases, overexposure can permanently damage your central vision. Harmful blue light from artificial sources such as electronic devices causes retinal cell degeneration, while ultra-violet radiation from the sun contributes to the development of cataracts.

“Everyone, no matter the age or gender, should protect their eyes daily from bad effects of excessive exposure to light,” shares Dr. Emelita Roleda, Essilor Philippines general manager. “The effects of overexposure to UV rays and harmful blue-violet light may only be visible during adulthood, when vision problems like Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) set in, so we highly advice the Filipino public to take preventive measures against them.”

Essilor, the world’s leading ophthalmic optics company, has come up with a solution that protects vision: Crizal® Prevencia multi-coated lenses, which selectively filters bad blue light and lets in essential good light needed for well-being.

“Essilor has undergone a rigid and thorough process in the creation of Crizal® Prevencia,” explains Dr. Roleda. “Its advanced light scan technology enables us to protect our eyes from irreversible eye conditions which threaten healthy vision.”

In addition to using Crizal® Prevencia lenses, she highly advices proper eye care. “Start by getting a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year,” she says. “Your eye doctor can determine the present condition of your eyes and help you take preventive or protective measures regarding possible vision problems.”

Another way to reduce the risk of eyestrain is taking frequent breaks from reading or monitor use, shares Dr. Roleda.

Lastly, she gives some sound sartorial advice when outdoors: “This summer, load your eyeglasses with Crizal® Prevencia lenses containing E-SPF 25. Then, pair your glasses with a nice hat or a sturdy umbrella.”

Indeed, eyesight is among the most important senses, but it receives less care than it deserves. By reducing strain, limiting exposure to harmful light, and making use of eyewear like Crizal® Prevencia lenses, you can protect your eyes all day long and ensure many more years of healthy vision.

Aster Clinic is first outpatient clinic in the Philippines awarded with an ISO 9001:2015 by TUV Rheinland

Aster Clinic marks a milestone as the first outpatient clinic in the country to receive an ISO 9001:2015 certification from the reputable German company TUV Rheinland. Coincidentally awarded at the turn of 30th global anniversary of its parent company, Aster DM Healthcare LLC based in UAE, Joyce Alumno, Country Manager of Aster DM Healthcare Philippines, identified the company’s unwavering core values, world-class standards, excellent patient experience, and technological advances in patient care as the advantages that awarded them the newest quality management system certification.

The ISO 9001:2015 is the most difficult certification process so far and TUV Rheinland is one of the most reputable certification firms that awards such. The newest certification requires a holistic, rigid procedure as it looks into how a company manages potential risks, aside from conforming to international standards and other crucial criteria for assessment. “It was not easy to pass the 9001:2015 commendations. We had to go through a tough process, which required us to document everything. However, with our existing international standards, we were given the TUV Rheinland approval after six months. Usually, assessments can go up to two years,” Alumno said. World-class standards as guiding principles for superiority Alumno said that Aster Clinic is guided by standards that have been around for 30 years. “Aster DM Healthcare established a certain level of quality as benchmarks for about 300 Aster units located around the globe. We are guided by six core values, including integrity, passion, respect, compassion, excellence and unity that we have ingrained in our system and culture since we started operating.”

15974887_10208889963661674_5036969242612926147_o.jpg

Although Aster Clinic is just one year old in the country, its foundation is based on the standards set by their international counterparts in different parts in the world. Excellence and as a core value of the trusted brand Among Aster Clinic’s core values, excellence is given emphasis as it highlights the quality and superiority of the company in patient care. “Excellence is our most important norm. As we aim to give the best service to our customers, we continue to improve our standards. We set the benchmarks and we further raise it. Our goal is to continuously develop as a global company and that Quality is a culture in Aster and the company puts a premium on service as this is what Aster DM Healthcare is known for. Technological advances in patient care “We’ll treat you well.” This is the proposition of Aster Clinic in the Philippines. But, more than just a marketing tagline, Aster Clinic has added more value to its goal of treating its patients well by introducing best practices that uses technology. The Clinic Information System (CIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) are technological breakthroughs in the company that have been recognized for its efficiency to patient care. The CIS and EMR are systems for recording and keeping patients’ health information like laboratory results, medical check-up appointments, and even x-ray images.

The information can be tracked by patients through the internet or their smartphones, which saves time, effort and costs on the part of the patients. The doctors can quickly refer to the patients’ records. “We have top-of-the-line machines and equipment to back this modern system. The technology is created by the Aster group and is unique to the company. These technologies help eliminate errors and the switching of results. It is proven and tested to be efficient and effective,” Alumno said. Aster Philippines looks into more opportunities “The ISO 9001:2015 certification is not just a marketing strategy for Aster Clinic. The company wants to make sure that they are setting the bar for international standards for outpatient clinics, thus we deemed it necessary to be certified by none less than TUV Rheinland. Our greatest goal is to gain customer satisfaction through our excellent services.

Through the ISO certification, we are confident that we will deliver the best satisfaction that our patients would like to experience,” Alumno emphasized. Meanwhile, the company is planning to expand in the country and will open three more branches in February next year. “We want to become a chain of outpatient clinics while we look for opportunities of building hospitals and pharmacies because that’s what we have within our network. If the market is good, we are planning to do this in Metro Manila and in some key cities in the country” Alumno said. Alumno added that the company will continue to promote its services, especially among the young adults as they recognize the increase of chronic or lifestyle diseases among this age group.

With an ISO 9001:2015 certification on its company wall, Aster Clinic in the Philippines is hopeful that these plans will be part of the future.

Lose weight effectively with Cohen’s Lifestyle Program’s easy-to-prepare and delicious meal plans

Some believe that you can’t enjoy delicious food and lose weight at the same time. Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre showed that you can as it kicked off its first Cohen Cook-Off Challenge. Cohen clients faced off in a cooking competition and presented their healthy, easy-to-cook and appetizing Cohen meals that can be quickly prepared at home and by doing so, lose weight safely and effectively.

Showcasing their original recipes were Mary Ann “Dr. Ianne” Tangcangco, 40, a physician who lost 35 lbs. on the program so far; Marian Remo, 30, a businesswoman who lost 16 lbs. to date; and Carrie Luis, 26, a freelance assistant who just started the program. Cohen clients Tangcangco, Remo and Luis prepared Apple Cake, Beef Stuffed Zucchini and Mushroom Burger, respectively.

Backed by years of scientific and medical research, Cohen’s Lifestyle Program is a personalized and rapid weight-loss and wellness program that focuses on proper nutrition and uses food as medicine. Each client’s unique blood profile is used as the basis for an individualized eating plan that recommends the personalized quantities of specific types of food that correct the hormonal imbalance that causes weight gain and obesity.

The program works like a prescription. It only “prescribes” food tested at the precise personalized quantity based on the biochemistry of your body to allow the body to do what it is naturally designed to do which is to burn fat. The food prescribed is easily available in the local supermarkets and is most likely already in your kitchen. Through this, there is no need for costly and unsafe procedures, such as injections or pills. Cohen’s Lifestyle Program delivers fast results, with clients averaging a loss of up to eight to 10 lbs. a month.

“The Cohen Program has a track record of success in delivering rapid weight loss using only food as medicine. We provide a safe, effective and scientific method of achieving a slimmer and healthier body, where all other methods may have failed,” said Barbara Young, Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre CEO and a certified life coach. “Cohen’s Lifestyle Program takes a holistic approach to losing weight. We don’t just guide you in losing weight but we also teach a healthier lifestyle, including cooking and eating habits and the way you look at food. You don’t need to be a chef to be able to prepare healthy, delicious meals. With a little bit of creativity in preparing food, losing weight can actually be fun. With the Cohen Cook-Off Challenge, we hope to inspire more people to take charge of their own health by getting involved in the preparation of their own food.”

The Cohen Cook-Off Challenge demonstrates that you can enjoy healthy, delicious and easy-to-cook meals even on a weight-loss program. With Cohen’s Lifestyle Program, you can now say goodbye to bland food to lose weight rapidly, safely and effectively.

Nuts About Health at Lily’s Peanut Spread Lite Launch

People are becoming more and more aware of the health value of the things they eat and drink. And by the looks of things, this emphasis on health is becoming more than just a simple fad; health consciousness is here to stay.

Lily’s Peanut Butter, already 60 years in the industry, saw this rise in health consciousness, and has adapted accordingly through the peanut butter that has become a staple of many a Filipino household.

After more than half a century of winning Filipino palates, Newborn Food Products Inc., the maker of Lily’s Peanut Butter, launched its newest product line, Lily’s Peanut Spread Lite, last August 14 at the Lily’s Lite in the City event, held at the Trinoma Activity Center, Quezon City.

The whole-day event, hosted by athlete-turned-celebrity-host Gretchen Ho, actor-model CJ Reyes, and singer-model John Pol Dimaculangan, will feature a variety of fun activities showcasing the health and wellness-oriented direction of the Lily’s brand with the release of this latest product.

Zumba sessions, demonstrations on healthy cooking, game booths, a special performance by Pilipinas’ Got Talent finalists, the Power Impact Dancers, and many more are available to the public, add to that special raffle prizes and high-score awards for people who purchased Lily’s products at the venue.

Lily’s Peanut Spread Lite is the first locally-produced lite peanut butter in the market. This peanut spread is made from real peanuts and stevia extract, without any of the added sugars or chemical ingredients included in many low-fat peanut butter alternatives on the market.

Stevia extract, which is extracted from the leaves of the Stevia Rebaudiana plant, contains naturally-occurring glycosides, which give the substance a distinct sweetness, despite having no sugar content.

This makes it ideal for today’s health-conscious eaters—from weight-watchers and people trying out low-glycemic diets to people suffering from ailments such as diabetes and hypertension—as it delivers the same creamy sweetness that has made Lily’s a favorite, without compromising consumers’ health. Taste and health don’t have to be exclusive of each other; healthy doesn’t need to be boring.

With this latest product line, Lily’s engaged itself to be an advocate of promoting healthy snacks, an advocacy that will continue to manifest in the company’s future projects and events.

As proudly stated by Arch. Ramon Pua, President/CEO of Newborn Food Products, Inc., which carries the Lily’s brand:“We don’t just aim for profit – we share heart! Lily’s Lang Talaga!”
