The highly-anticipated annual fun run organized by Sun Life Financial Philippines, will soon cater to both running and cycling enthusiasts, as it evolves into a two-fold event dubbed Sunpiology Duo.

#SunpiologyDUO will come in two parts: Sun Life Cycle PH @BGC and Sun Life Resolution Run.

Sun Life Cycle PH will take place on November 18, 2017 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Sun Life will be mounting the event in partnership with Sunrise Events, Inc., which is known for its flagship projects that focus on race organization and sports tourism. The contract signing between the two companies was held recently in Shangri-La Mactan in Cebu, with Sun Life CEO and Country Head Riza Mantaring, Sun Life brand ambassador Piolo Pascual, Sunrise Founder Wilfred Uytengsu, and Sunrise General Manager Princess Galura in attendance.

“We recognize cycling’s growing popularity in the Philippines, and this is our share in helping encourage more people to get into the sport,” Sun Life Chief Marketing Officer Mylene Lopa said. “Just as it is in our fun run, Sun Life Cycle PH will cater to different ages and will offer different categories.”

Sun Life Cycle PH will have a total of seven categories: Tricycle Ride (100 meters for 2-3 year olds), Kids’ Ride (500 meters for 4-5 year olds), Family Ride (30 minutes for 6-15 year olds with adult companion), Solo Ride (30 minutes for 6-15 years old), Short Distance Ride (20km for 10 years old and above), and Long Distance Ride (40km for 10 years old and above). A charity category called Bid2Bike lets the fans of Piolo Pascual, Matteo Guidicelli, Inigo Pascual, Gerald Anderson, and other Star Magic celebrities, bid for a chance to bike alongside their idols, an exclusive photo souvenir, and have their jersey signed. Meanwhile, the Sun Life Resolution Run will happen on January 20, 2018. As with the previous years, Sun Life will once again mount the event with Run Rio and will offer 3k, 5k, and 10k categories. Once upon a time, in a land faraway, a maiden with hair as black as ebony, lips as red as the rose and skin as white as snow walk into the spring, carrying an empty pot, followed by chirping birds, squeaking squirrels and galloping deers.

She scoop water up her hand and jug down the cold liquid, quenching her thirst from the summer heat before filling up her vessel to return back to the gnomes. Refreshed and invigorated, she carry her pail full of water back home.

Well, we do not do that anymore, not everyday, not in most places. When it’s hot and humid, or simply when we feel thirsty, what do we look for? We don’t usually fetch for water.

Unfortunately, water is the last of our choices because we reach and subconsciously choose cold soda or sugary crushed ice – and bottomless, at that. This behavior is adopted easily by no other than our kids and toddlers!

No kidding! The rate of soda consumption among kids continues to increase resulting to premature obesity. A child’s body constantly needs a supply of water to ensure that the body is able to carry out all of the functions to allow learning, growth and ability for various physical activities.

Did you know? Small sips of water throughout the day is the smartest way to keep well hydrated. Keeping the bottle near will mentally remind you to reach for it.

Bento means lunch box in Japanese and it is proven be to a smart-creative way to incorporate and sneak in healthy vegetables and fruits in kids diet, especially picky eaters.

Ms. Kat discussed the techniques to keep the Bento interesting, fun and always fresh! Bento lunch box must have a balance of go, glow and grow food. It should be placed neatly and tightly secured.

We should also use leftovers from our carvings and stampings, and finally, we should opt for natural food colorings, like turmeric for yellow and spirulina for green. To keep the ideas coming, we could also create a Bento Diaries that can also serve as our guide.

Saving Earth

1 Financial savvy Mickey – cut a small portion of the bottle to make a slit enough for coins to get through.

2 Elsa’s Glitter Bottle – Mix the glitter glue and hot water with the whisk in a container. Then stir in some extra glitter. Let the water come to room temperature, pour the mixture into the empty water bottle and seal the lid on.

3 Green Thumb Snow White – Cut the neck part of the bottle. Poke holes at the bottom, fill with soil and place a plant or a succulent. Water.

4 Aurora’s Storage Trick – The neck part of the bottle that was cut to use in no. 3 can be use as an opening to food items in pouches. Just insert the opening in the bottle, snugly place the plastic on the mouth and cover.

5 Belle’s flower – Dissolve a paracetamol tablet in a glass of water. Fill the empty #AbsoluteDisney bottle with the solution. Cut flowers and place them inside the bottle.

6 Elsa’s Frozen Pot – Put pebbles inside the bottle and add faux flowers.

7 Nemo’s Treasure Tank – Remove bottle’s top part. Place crayons or whatever treasure that fits inside and cover it with another bottom.

Finding balance between passion and profession

Atty. Rene “Rebo” Saguisag, Jr. is a multifaceted individual who, despite his busy profession, never turns down an opportunity to work with his passion. Aside from being a notable lawyer, following the footsteps of his father, prominent human rights lawyer Rene Saguisag Sr., he was also a former BEST Center coach and is currently the UAAP commissioner for two consecutive seasons, 78 and 79. On top of that, Atty. Rebo is also a strong advocate of sports development among the youth naming the Mindanao Peace Games as one of his involvements.  Recently, he even volunteered to manage his son’s little league baseball team.

How does he balance his passion and profession? “I don’t,” Saguisag wittingly answered. “I just married the perfect wife who fills all my shortcomings.” Law practice and basketball seem like two different worlds. Managing each would require his undivided attention as they are both time-consuming and emotionally draining. He explained, “I don’t see it as an obstacle but a challenge and opportunity to better myself so I never even considered choosing one over the other. In fact, if handled properly, they can even complement each other.”

 

Saguisag stated that his success as a lawyer, his pride in being a former BEST Center coach and now the UAAP commissioner, his commitment to being a good family man, and a better individual are all because of the lessons he learned while playing basketball when he was still young.

 

“All I really needed to learn, I learned inside the basketball court,” he shared.

 

Saguisag’s experience as a former coach for BEST (Basketball Efficiency & Scientific Training) Center, multi-awarded and pioneer in basketball clinics in the country, helped in his values formation. He noted how the organization has instilled in him discipline and a great sense of responsibility. The strict guidelines and high standards imposed and maintained in the clinics and the proper behavior required in the court, along with the values taught in team sports, has molded him to become who he is today.

 

He further explained, “Playing and coaching basketball aided me in knowing the technicalities and rules of the game which is vital in my position as a commissioner. Meanwhile, small details such as punctuality and grooming (like making sure my jerseys are tucked) helped in how I properly carry myself, even inside the courtroom.”

 

So far, the former BEST Center coach and now notable lawyer-cum-UAAP commissioner enjoys the best of both worlds and aims to implement his advocacies for the development of both fields. He also encourages everyone not to limit themselves to their own comfort zones but instead, be open to opportunities, accept challenges and turn these into achievements. Above all, never undermine the seemingly trivial lessons you learn along the way for it is through these experiences that make you who are, regardless of what you are.
