With summer holiday just around the corner, Dubai-based celebrity, model and fitness guru Rania Gamal went to the Philippines recently to discover breathtaking places that will surely enjoy by people living in Dubai and the rest of the Middle East region and will be the perfect getaway destination for the upcoming holiday season.


Rania Gamal visited one of the country’s popular summer destinations for locals – Batangas. Rania stayed at Acuatico Beach and Resort Hotel that was owned by the famous Filipino designer Mama Rene Salud’s family. During her stay, Rania enjoyed the stunning beach and sunset in the property. She has experience local food like seafood, Batangas lomi, Barako coffee, to name a few, where she found exactly right for Middle Easterns to try.

Finding balance between passion and profession

Atty. Rene “Rebo” Saguisag, Jr. is a multifaceted individual who, despite his busy profession, never turns down an opportunity to work with his passion. Aside from being a notable lawyer, following the footsteps of his father, prominent human rights lawyer Rene Saguisag Sr., he was also a former BEST Center coach and is currently the UAAP commissioner for two consecutive seasons, 78 and 79. On top of that, Atty. Rebo is also a strong advocate of sports development among the youth naming the Mindanao Peace Games as one of his involvements.  Recently, he even volunteered to manage his son’s little league baseball team.

How does he balance his passion and profession? “I don’t,” Saguisag wittingly answered. “I just married the perfect wife who fills all my shortcomings.” Law practice and basketball seem like two different worlds. Managing each would require his undivided attention as they are both time-consuming and emotionally draining. He explained, “I don’t see it as an obstacle but a challenge and opportunity to better myself so I never even considered choosing one over the other. In fact, if handled properly, they can even complement each other.”


Saguisag stated that his success as a lawyer, his pride in being a former BEST Center coach and now the UAAP commissioner, his commitment to being a good family man, and a better individual are all because of the lessons he learned while playing basketball when he was still young.


“All I really needed to learn, I learned inside the basketball court,” he shared.


Saguisag’s experience as a former coach for BEST (Basketball Efficiency & Scientific Training) Center, multi-awarded and pioneer in basketball clinics in the country, helped in his values formation. He noted how the organization has instilled in him discipline and a great sense of responsibility. The strict guidelines and high standards imposed and maintained in the clinics and the proper behavior required in the court, along with the values taught in team sports, has molded him to become who he is today.


He further explained, “Playing and coaching basketball aided me in knowing the technicalities and rules of the game which is vital in my position as a commissioner. Meanwhile, small details such as punctuality and grooming (like making sure my jerseys are tucked) helped in how I properly carry myself, even inside the courtroom.”


So far, the former BEST Center coach and now notable lawyer-cum-UAAP commissioner enjoys the best of both worlds and aims to implement his advocacies for the development of both fields. He also encourages everyone not to limit themselves to their own comfort zones but instead, be open to opportunities, accept challenges and turn these into achievements. Above all, never undermine the seemingly trivial lessons you learn along the way for it is through these experiences that make you who are, regardless of what you are.

One of the things I look for companies is its value for accountability to their laborers and employees. I’m quite fascinated on how the company culture is nurtured when it comes to business’ working environment.

Q1: Do you have social responsibility program at the moment?

A: Although, recently launched, 2 years ago in the Philippines, Boom Pods is already available to 40 countries worldwide, and as a British Company, we hold strong and true to high standard and quality of products. We educate factory workers and employees to safety standards and procedures while following protocols and ISO requirements.

And in the future I hope, Boom Pods will not only make life more comfortable with high-end gizmos but also reach out to the community more – scholarships and charity works.

As a self-proclaimed environmentalist, I seek for company that is eco-friendly and self-sustainability as well.

Q3: I know you guys hate wire, are you open to switch to solar charges? How do your company manage to lessen your carbon footprints?

A: One of the mandates of being a certified ISO in the industry is by having a proper waste management and standards on plastic and packages.

And in the future, I hope that they will look more onto where factory scraps and electronic spare parts really go or be better, donate it to robotics/electronic schools or reuse it.

Boom Pods is a very promising high-end brand just like Apple, thus my commentary.

Herbalife Nutrition Study Reveals Alarming Lack of Nutrition, Hydration and Exercise Among Adults

Herbalife, a global nutrition company, has released the findings from its Asia Pacific Balanced Nutrition Survey1, which focuses on shedding light on nutrition and health habits, behaviors and attitudes of consumers aged 18 and above. The survey is an element of the seventh Herbalife Asia Pacific Wellness Tour, seeking to inspire consumers to adopt balanced nutrition habits and reinforce its impact to long-term health and wellbeing. According to survey findings, 8 in 10 (78%) of Filipino consumers are eating less than half of the daily recommended serving of fruits and vegetables, 4 in 10 (41%) do not drink enough water, and more than half (59%) do not get enough exercise.

While 6 in 10 (60%) of consumers in the Philippines believe that ensuring their body gets the sufficient nutrients to function optimally was the greatest motivator to adopting a balanced diet, modern, fast-paced lifestyles make it increasingly challenging to incorporate healthy nutrition habits into daily lives. 
The study revealed that 6 in 10 (57%) respondents in the Philippines found having a daily balanced nutrition approach to be challenging, citing the lack of time, money, and motivation to be the top three obstacles preventing them from having a healthier lifestyles.

Additionally, the Philippines survey findings revealed the following:

• 8 in 10 (78%) consumers claimed to consume 0 to 2 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, below the recommended 5 servings per day

• 4 in 10 (41%) consume less than the recommended 8 glasses of water/fluids per day

• Over half (59%) achieve less than 1 hour of physical activity per day, with 10% having no physical activity at all

• The top 3 motivations to adopting balanced nutrition are sufficient nutrients to function optimally (60%), to prevent health related problems and complications (51%) and to maintain ideal body weight to prevent obesity-related health problems (39%)

• The top 3 obstacles to a daily nutrition approach are lack of time (57%), lack of money (53%), and lack of motivation (45%).

• To help consumers improve their nutrition habits: 

o 7 in 10 (67%) of respondents feel that having an easier access to healthier food choices would help them adopt a balanced nutrition approach.  

o 4 in 10 (37%) of respondents look for like-minded people to make healthier food choices together

o 4 in 10 (42%) of respondents seek expert advice for a personalized nutrition plan 
When asked about what would help them achieve their balanced nutrition and exercise goals, most of the respondents agreed that balanced nutrition and community support approach, such as that exhibited at Herbalife Independent Nutrition Clubs, would improve personal well-being in the long run.

Planning for a kiddie party need not to be too much of a stress, especially having the end goal of making it fun, memorable, and simply giving your kid a knack of a good time.

The first thing to remember is that any kind of party-planning requires work, but good planning with a timeline tracker makes it a whole lot easier to handle. Here’s a basic checklist of what to prepare and expect from three months down to three days before the main event.

Two to three months before the party

  • Start discussing with your child the kind of party he or she wants to have

Involving your kid in identifying the theme will help narrow down the list of ideas in your head. Plus, it allows creativity and decision-making to start earlier on in their lives.

  • Set a budget

This is the most important part in any party-planning. Managing the party theme, the number of guests, and the activities will depend once your budget is set, and work your best to stick to.

  • Identify the time and date, and the invitees list

It’s important to get on a date that your guests will be free to attend – will it be after school? On a weekend? Or during a holiday? You can ask around and secure the schedule at least two to three months prior. Also try to work on a time schedule that is not in conflict with your kid’s afternoon nap pattern.


Four weeks before the party

  • Prepare the entertainment and activities
